This is truly a must have guide for those looking to maximize your dining experiences during your visit to the island of Kauai. The guide is comprehensive and well written, but easy to use and small enough to hold my wife’s bag for a trip around the island. The restaurants are divided by region and category. You’re on vacation with his family, interested in seeing a luau or perhaps want to hit a one or two. Those lists are also there. All important data is included, with prices, sample menus and, above all, Bob and Cindy Carpenter impressions in general. Most guides will tell you that a place is good or one of the local favorites, but the carpenters have gone a step further. In fact, his personal favorites list. In addition, all establishments in the book are placed Carpenters return. My wife and I thought it was great and found their descriptions and recommendations to be placed on accuracy. Forget the chain restaurants, which as local foods, eating many meals / near water as possible and enjoy the cuisine that Hawaii has to offer. For us, this is as important as the places to see. But I did not know (Carpenters visit Hawaii and reading books), was the other way can be a dinner in Hawaii. It is truly an adventure and this is what explains so eloquently Carpenters. They describe eleven different kitchens as well as a glossary of Hawaiian food, culture and sea conditions. The glossary has been very valuable to us. I can not tell you how many times we have referred to it during dinner. As it is written on the back of the guide, dining Hawaii is the crossroads of the Pacific where cultural influences from around the world have helped create a blend of cuisines unlike any found on earth. “So, for those new to the island as well as veterans, bring your appetite and a guide to this… In my opinion, you have lots of adventures good restaurants.

  3. I am one of those people who do not live to eat, so I am far from expert on food and restaurants. My top picks are often high hamburgers and fries or pizza. Contemplating my first trip to Hawaii definitely need help where and how I was going to eat, what I consider a foreign country. The last thing I wanted to do was sign up for a guided tour, but with this book, I feel I can survive on my own.

restaurants is not one of my priorities thank the many places in the book, offering very reasonable prices and casual wear. The “Travel” offers a lot of navigation in this foreign land, and “Quirks and Warnings” and “Kitchen” sections explain the options we face when he landed on the island.

Each person review provides all the necessary information as hours, location, phone number, website, as well as sample items from the menu and prices. Finally, the authors’ comments on “impressions” describes the intangible issues such as viewing environment you can enjoy the food, to help me make my decision.

After finishing the book, I can not wait to get to Kauai!

Reviews of each restaurant is useful especially if you know the name of the restaurant you want to go. However, it is well-organized. The book is organized alphabetically by restaurant name, not by category (casual, expensive, beachfront, etc. and / or location). Certainly, the end of the book has a list of all restaurants in Poipu, but we must find the name of each individual restaurant to understand what type of restaurant it is. In general, it may be easier to use.

This book was incredibly helpful during my trip to Kauai. I thought the comments were there and I was grateful for a book he was sure would lead me in the right direction – especially after meals are so expensive in Kauai. I thought the organization would have been better. The restaurants are listed alphabetically and by region. There is a list of restaurants by region in the back, but I think it would be better organized by region initially. However, this is a must have for your trip.
